- 2023| African Online Scien...Background: The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is widely accepted as an effective means of assessing clinical competence and nursing skills. There is, however, little existing knowledge on how first-year nursing students perceived stress during their first OSCE. Objectives: To determine the perception of stress; to identify the perceived factors causing stress; and to determine the perceived incidence of stress. Method: A descriptive, survey was conducted on a sample of 82 first-year nursing students using the Perceived Stress Scale (PPS). Results: The results showed that more than half (n = 54) of students perceived stress at moderate levels. Students not having sufficient time to complete the OSCE was perceived as the main factor causing stress (mean = 22.04; standard deviation [s.d.] = 6.21). The correlation between perception of stress and perceived factors causing stress showed a significant weak positive linear correlation among the variables (r = 0.45; p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study findings are important as the data determining the first-year nursing students’ perception of stress were collected immediately after their first OSCE, which may indicate that perception of stress was related to the actual event rather than the preparation for the OSCE. A follow-up qualitative research study should be conducted, preferably in the same setting, so that the students’ experiences of stress during the first OSCE can be explored in depth. Contribution: The OSCE environment is perceived as stressful for nursing students and will need careful support from academic and clinical teaching staff

- The study explores secondary school teachers’ perceptions of the adoption of culturally responsive geometry instruction (CRGI). The research was carried out utilizing a survey design. The mathematics teachers from Ondo State secondary schools in Nigeria make up the study population. The study participants were 218 mathematics teachers selected through a multistage sampling procedure. An adapted instrument consisting of three sections, with the first section seeking participants’ biodata, the second section tagged CRGI adoption questionnaire, and the third section tagged CRGI self-efficacy questionnaire, was used for data collection after determining its reliability index. The study reveals that teachers exhibited a moderate level of perception regarding adopting CRGI. Also, the teacher possessed a moderate level of self-efficacy in implementing CRGI. In addition, gender significantly influenced teachers’ perceptions of adopting culturally responsive instruction in teaching geometry. The study further shows that mathematics teachers’ perception of their self-efficacy in implementing CRGI is not significantly influenced by gender. Sequel to the conclusion of the research, it was suggested that teachers actively engage with their students’ cultural backgrounds to integrate culturally relevant examples into geometry instruction.

- The study focused on the perceptions of academic staff members and students on free higher education at the University of Zululand and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The main aim was to determine the sustainability, challenges and benefits of this policy and possibly come with solutions or alternatives if the policy does not succeed. The project reviewed studies on access to higher education, challenges faced by Higher Education (HE) and possible benefits of this policy in South Africa. It further reviewed government policies on HE. The researcher collected data by using questionnaires and interview. A total of twenty-eight (28) questionnaires were administered at the two universities and one unstructured interview was conducted for one of the officials at the department of basic education. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed to analyze the data. The study revealed that most of the respondents are not satisfied with the implementation of this policy. The findings also revealed that little or no consultation and poor planning from government administrative has caused conflict of interest between the relevant stakeholders, which are the taxpayers, students and the academic staff members. Hence, the study suggests that government should do proper planning before implementing policies to avoid fruitless expenditure from scarce resources held. Government should also review and restructure some higher education policies, especially education transformation policies.

- Small and medium companies (SMCs) are needed for the successful and meaningful development of the South African economy. These companies bring a significant reduction in unemployment levels. Apart from lowering unemployment levels, SMCs play a pivotal role in transforming the South African economy. However, there is a high failure rate of small and medium companies. Although the labor laws of South Africa are believed to be the major obstacle that is significantly affecting the growth of SMCs, there is no prior empirical study conducted to investigate this subject. The scourge of failure of these companies has gripped the growth of the economy. Hence, the aim of the study is to examine the perceptions of small and medium companies toward employment equity amendments in South Africa. The study uses a qualitative research method and purposive sampling to select the data. An open-ended questionnaire collected usable data from 73 employees of small and medium companies. The findings of the study revealed that the employment equity amendments were viewed as too harsh for small and medium companies. SMCs perceived that these amendments bring more harm than good. Therefore, they should engage the government to enforce amendments to the legislation that stimulate business performance rather than those that hinder it.

- 2025| International Journa...This study aimed to explore the perception of primary school teachers on the mainstreaming of psychological support services in the Shiselweni region of Eswatini. The study focused on understanding how primary school teachers perceive the integration of psychological support services in mainstream education, including the extent to which they perceive these services as helpful, accessible, and sustainable. The researchers used both quantitative and qualitative approaches, including questionnaire (open-ended & close-ended) and semi-structured interviews, to collect data from a sample of ninety (90) Teachers, and fifteen (15) Principals in the region. The quantitative data that were collected were analysed by using descriptive statistics like frequency and percentages whereas the qualitative data was analysed qualitatively according to themes that emerged. Findings include; conditions of teachers like experience, age, gender and qualifications had played a significant role in development and the performance of learners at primary schools in Shiselweni region. Also, conductive environment had a positive effect on students’ learning and growth. However, it was revealed that lack of resources was the greatest barrier to the implementation of mainstreaming psychosocial support. Therefore, a recommendation was given that primary school teachers should collaborate with school counsellors, social workers, and other mental health professionals to identify students who may require psychological support services and develop appropriate interventions.

- Market research has realised that identifying tourists’ needs and wants, and making concerted efforts to satisfying them is the hallmark of destination marketing. This study explores locals’ perception of South Africa (SA) as a leisure travel destination, and ways of marketing the destination, using the case of Mtubatuba Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. We used a structured questionnaire to collect data from 400 respondents. Results show that respondents perceive South Africa as a favourable leisure travel destination. Results also show that better promotion of South Africa as a domestic leisure travel destination should be made, mostly through the usage of Technology. Young (18-30 years of age), female, and employed residents, and those with tertiary education, show higher demand for domestic tourism than their counterparts. This study recommends that domestic tourism marketing efforts by South African Tourism should be amplified targeting these demographic groups. Intensive and continuous domestic tourism promotion (using social media and other modern forms of Information and Communication Technology), competitive pricing (through reduced operational costs and bundle pricing), and further improvements on national security are areas that still need national attention. Domestic tourism demand translates into international or foreign demand.
