- The Millerite movement persisted during the great disappointment, even though many returnedto the former Christian churches because the dates predicted for the Lord’s second coming didnot come to pass. Miller’s central focus was to determine if his audiences were ready for Christ’ssecond coming. William Miller and Ellen White documenting their values and beliefs have seenthis movement develop into the Seventh-day Adventist Church as an organisation that has madegreat inroads into various areas. This organisation was established by lay preachers. The aim ofthis paper was to identify the various types of communication employed by the Seventh-dayAdventist Church. Klopper’s (2003) Theory of Optimisation of Human Communication (TOHC)will be used as the theoretical framework for this study. For a community to survive they need toemploy various types of communication available. Secondly, they need to be competitive againstother groups. This paper analysed the Seventh-day Adventist Church statistics from those whichwere posted on their websites. The paper shows how the Seventh-day Adventist Church survivedduring the great disappointment because they employed the various types of communicationeffectively. They became competitive by making inroads into new communities and presented thegospel through maximising the use of various types of communication available through thecenturies. To be effective, early Christian groups irrespective of which stage of development theywere in, should have maximised the use of all communication types accessible

- The issue of large classes is evident at all levels of education. Regardless of this being viewed as challenging to both the students and educators, appropriate teaching pedagogies should be sought, although the teaching method used is cooperative learning, however, if appropriately used, it can prove to be very helpful to teachers who are faced with the large class scenario. However, the author is of the view that cooperative learning should be used in all classes irrespective of the number of students in the class. He believes that developing students to work within a team is beneficial to them. This method of learning will equip them for their path into the Business Sector. Cooperative learning will be the theoretical framework for this study. The aim of the paper revealed that students need to have their higher order thinking skills enhanced. The objective was to identify the various forms of cooperative learning and how it enhances higher order thinking skills. Cooperative learning has positives and negatives; however, the positives outweigh the negatives. The author has taught on many occasions and has discovered cooperative learning to be very beneficial for him and the students. Students entering the employment arena soon need to learn how to function as a team and cooperative learning develops these skills. Within this study the author narrated how he has utilised cooperative learning within his classes. The paper finally showed how cooperative learning as a teaching pedagogy enhances student's higher order.

- This research examined how the digital divide affected South Africa's communication practices and the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in the country. Within the everyday lives of people, communication plays a vital role and is the lifeblood of any given society. When there is a crisis, like for example the COVID-19 outbreak, communication becomes all the more crucial. Specifically, timely and candid communication during a time of crisis is essential in order to ensure that accurate and detailed messages are delivered to all stakeholders. The study adopted a qualitative approach and used a non-probability sampling strategy. Thematic analysis was conducted using secondary statistical information gathered from South African participants on the website Datareportal. The paper aimed to identify and analyse the digital divide factors affecting the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in South Africa. Following an in-depth thematic analysis, key aspects related to the relationship between the digital divide and the COVID-19 vaccine rollout were addressed. The factors of the digital divide that affect vaccine adoption and the communication process in South Africa, namely internet access, internet usage, and digital literacy, were identified and discussed. Recommendations deemed essential for bridging the COVID-19 digital divide in South Africa, together with an improved and efficient approach to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and communication process, included improved access to the internet, upgraded infrastructure and strategies for providing free Wi-Fi access in remote and rural areas.

- On 27 April 1994, South Africa’s first democratic election was held. Twenty-two million voted in those elections, and nineteen political parties were part of the elections. The African National Congress won a 62.5 % majority vote, with Dr Nelson Mandela becoming the first African president of the Republic of South Africa. Since then, innovative technology has created more innovative methods of communication. While traditional communication channels are still employed, political parties now use innovative technology in their campaigns. Most of the South African population are young people, and most of them prefer innovative technology to communicate digitally. Social media seamlessly reaches a large audience, and it is also a wonderful way for political parties to engage with their electorate and become aware of their concerns and challenges. This study, therefore, looks at how South African political parties are using various social media sites to position themselves to reach a larger targeted audience. This study used a desktop approach, surveying various political websites and current literature available online. The Uses and Gratification Theory and Two-way Communication model were used to conceptualise this study.

- This paper examines the implications of party politics, political communication and voting behaviour for South Africa’s nation-building. The paper argues that the country’s nation-building is partly dependent on the internal politics of political parties, political communication and voting behaviour. In contemporary South Africa, the youth have played a significant role in party politics and political communication. Their participation in party politics has shaped voting patterns and behaviour in the country. Given the new political landscape, the youth became prominent among the various political parties. Amongst them was Mr Julius Malema, who formed his own political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), after being expelled from the African National Congress (ANC). Despite the EFF’s growth not being as significant as its leader would have hoped for, the EFF is slowly chipping away at votes from other political parties, mostly from the ANC. They have also pulled at the heartstrings of voters who were found to have a strong presence among the students of Higher Education Institutions and youth of the country. This paper, therefore, argues that the youth have a strong role to play in South Africa’s nation-building quest. Utilising the qualitative method that was sourced through desktop reviews, it examines the role of the youth in party politics and nation building. It finds that the active participation of youth in party politics and prompt political communication is significantly connected to nation-building. It concludes that the nation-building quest of South Africa can better be achieved through active youth participation in party politics.

- The Book of Jeremiah is the second of the Prophets in the Christian Old Testament. The prophet Jeremiah witnessed first-hand, a nation struggling to survive. Jeremiah comes through plainly as a person contemplating his role as a servant of Yahweh with scant good news for his people. Jeremiah's heart-rending message is communicated by both his prophecies and account of Jerusalem's destruction. Jeremiah’s prophecies are unambiguous and pessimistic and aimed at rebuking people who had become idolatrous and debauched. Yahweh appointed Jeremiah to proclaim the destruction and building of a nation that would ultimately lead to His Kingdom. He thus also offers his people hope and his prophetic warnings are also promises that returning to Yahweh will lead the people to divine blessings and he states that Yahweh will eventually honour his pledge with the Jews. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). For forty years Jeremiah preached to the unrepented Judah and Israel. Jeremiah used verbal communication to challenge the religious hypocrisy, economic dishonesty, and oppressive practice of Judah leaders and those who followed them. The article concludes that Jeremiah’s experiences prepared him and put him in good state to comprehend resources which Yahweh provides. He fought throughout his life and he attained lofty spiritual levels demonstrating his piety. His prophetic career coincided with the last years of Judah’s independence before it was overrun by the Babylonians. Jeremiah prophesied that Yahweh would make a covenant with Israel, superseding the old Mosaic Covenant; Yahweh would then write his law on the hearts of men rather than on stone tablets and they would all come to know Him directly and receive his compassion and forgiveness. Jeremiah was an effective prophet who could clearly communicate his vision based on Yahweh’s wishes, and he provided constructive feedback to people, and strongly stated what people needed to do. This brief study primarily employs a literature study, and a biblical-theological approach to interpreting the book of Jeremiah is also integrated. His communication strategy is also unpacked as it ensured that the people had suitable information about Yahweh’ wishes, towards maintaining close steadiness in their lives and preventing any ambiguity as to the outcome of iniquity and also Yahweh’s promises to a faithful people.

- COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on communities, cities, countries, and continents globally, not solely in Africa. The affluent and most developed countries were not equipped for the COVID-19 pandemic. Organisations that were usually not recognised as critical services realised that in order to survive, they needed to substitute and find alternatives to continue doing business. Some countries went into level five lockdown. Higher education institutions were instantly pushed to switch from face-to-face teaching and learning to online learning. Teaching at the University of Zululand is done mainly through Moodle and WhatsApp. Lecturers use Big Blue Button to deliver Moodle lessons. These classes are recorded and readily accessible. M-Learning is becoming a common way of learning, however, lack of data, network connectivity, and load shedding has been a major challenge. The theoretical framework for this paper was the Shannon and Weaver Model of Communication. A mixed method research approach was used as part of their methodology. Due to students not being present on campus, Google Forms were used to disseminate the questionnaires. From the data, it is clear that students have a challenge with online assessment, however, the majority still prefer to study online. However, internet data connectivity and loadshedding have become major obstacles in online teaching and learning.

- In the past, the church was a place of comfort and healing. However, COVID-19 brought about a profound change that saw life as we knew it come to an abrupt halt. Services that were not considered essential, including that of the church, were forced to close their doors. Religious bodies and critical leaders of society did not recognise churches as an integral, life-giving part of the community and world at large. Secular organisations offering essential services could be operated under strict conditions. However, the church remained closed. Despite lockdown restrictions being eased, churches still ensued an uphill battle to open their doors. Strict limits were imposed when the church was eventually allowed to resume fellowship. This was imposed by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Pastors had to look to other mediums to propagate the gospel to ensure the church’s survival. Social media have become the most common medium used by the church during COVID-19 to propagate the gospel. This paper aims to describe the forms of communication used by the cell church post-COVID-19 to ensure its survival. The early church gathered in homes as there were no designated buildings where they could worship. COVID-19 forced Christians to have fellowship in their homes and connect with their pastors via social media. The cell church is built around the Jethro Model. It was a form of leadership suggested to Moses by his father-in-law when he noticed how he handled the issues of the Hebrew people. The cell group provides spiritual nourishment for each other and encourages fellowship between family and friends. With cell groups being closed as a result of the restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, this has hindered the spiritual growth of believers. This paper proposes that cell churches use all forms of communication until cell groups become functional again. Secondary sources are used as part of the research methodology for this study.
